DoorBlock - Installation & Operation

SETUP & USAGE

Installation & Operation

Everything you need to know about installing and operating your DoorBlock security system for maximum protection.

SETUP PROCESS

Installation Steps

1

Position Base Plate

Place the base plate at the optimal location near the base of your door, ensuring it will block the door when the slide plate is inserted. The base plate should be positioned so that when the slide plate is engaged, it will prevent the door from opening.

Positioning Tips:

  • Position the base plate approximately 1-2 cm away from the door when closed
  • Ensure the base plate is aligned parallel to the door edge
  • For inward-swinging doors, place the base plate on the side where the door opens
  • For French doors, position centrally between the two doors
Positioning the Base Plate

Make sure the floor surface is clean and dry before placement.

2

Mark and Drill

With the base plate in position, mark the screw hole locations using a pencil or marker. Remove the base plate and drill pilot holes using the appropriate drill bit for your flooring material.

Drilling Guidelines:

  • For wooden floors: Use a 3mm drill bit for pilot holes
  • For concrete floors: Use a 6mm masonry bit and wall plugs
  • For tile floors: Use a diamond-tipped bit at slow speed to prevent cracking
  • Drill to a depth of approximately 5cm

Before drilling, always check for underfloor heating, electrical wires, or plumbing that could be damaged during installation.

3

Secure Base Plate

Fasten the base plate firmly to the floor using the provided hardware, ensuring all screws are tight. The base plate must be completely secure with no movement to provide maximum protection.

Installation Tips:

  • Use the provided screws for optimal security
  • Tighten screws fully but avoid over-tightening on wooden floors
  • Ensure the base plate sits flush with the floor
  • Check that all screws are secure and the plate doesn't move when pressure is applied
DoorBlock Installation Steps

The strength of your DoorBlock depends on how securely the base plate is anchored.

4

Test Operation

Insert the slide plate into position and test to ensure smooth operation and proper blocking of the door. Open and close the door to verify there's no interference when the door is open, and that the DoorBlock effectively prevents the door from opening when engaged.

Testing Checklist:

  • Slide plate should insert and remove easily
  • When engaged, the door should be blocked from opening
  • When disengaged, the door should open and close normally
  • The base plate should remain firmly in place during testing

Once the slide plate is properly engaged, apply moderate pressure to the door to ensure the DoorBlock is functioning correctly. The door should not open at all when the barricade is in place.

Operation Instructions

A
Engaging the DoorBlock

To secure your door with the DoorBlock barricade:

  1. Ensure the door is fully closed
  2. Take the slide plate and align it with the base plate
  3. Insert the slide plate into the base plate channel
  4. Verify the slide plate is properly positioned to block the door

Ensure the slide plate is fully inserted for maximum security. A partially engaged slide plate may not provide adequate protection.

B
Disengaging the DoorBlock

To remove the DoorBlock when security is no longer needed:

  1. Ensure there is no pressure being applied to the door
  2. Grasp the slide plate securely
  3. Pull the slide plate straight back to remove it from the base plate
  4. Store the slide plate in an accessible location for future use

For quick access during emergencies, store the slide plate near the door but out of reach from any windows or openings that could be breached.

Best Practices

  • Regular Testing

Test your DoorBlock regularly to ensure smooth operation. This helps confirm the system is working properly and familiarizes all household members with its operation.

  • Family Training

Ensure all family members understand how to engage and disengage the DoorBlock. Practice emergency scenarios so everyone knows how to quickly secure doors when needed.

  • Slide Plate Storage

Store slide plates in consistent, accessible locations near each installed base plate. Consider creating a dedicated storage hook or shelf near each door.

  • Emergency Planning

Incorporate DoorBlock usage into your family emergency plan. Designate which doors should be secured first in different emergency scenarios.

  • Periodic Maintenance

Check mounting screws every 6 months to ensure they remain tight. Clean the slide channel occasionally to ensure smooth operation.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install DoorBlock on any floor type?

DoorBlock can be installed on most floor types including hardwood, laminate, tile, and concrete. For carpet installations, we recommend installing a small wooden backing plate underneath for stability. For specific flooring concerns, please contact our customer support team for guidance.

Will DoorBlock damage my floor?

DoorBlock is designed to minimize floor damage. The installation requires small mounting screws that will leave holes when removed. On wooden floors, these can typically be filled. For renters or those concerned about floor damage, please consult with your property manager or consider our non-permanent installation options.

How much force can DoorBlock withstand?

When properly installed, DoorBlock has been tested to withstand over 2000 pounds of force. This exceeds the force that can typically be applied in a forced entry attempt. The actual resistance depends on proper installation and the integrity of your floor structure.

Can I remove and reinstall DoorBlock if I move?

Yes, the base plate can be uninstalled by removing the mounting screws. You can then reinstall it at your new location. We recommend purchasing a new set of mounting hardware for reinstallation to ensure optimal security. For frequently moved installations, consider our portable security options.

What if I lose the slide plate?

Replacement slide plates can be purchased separately from our website or authorized dealers. Each slide plate is designed to work with any DoorBlock base plate of the same model. We recommend purchasing a spare slide plate if this is a concern.
